Protecting the environment and communities in which the Group operates continues to be of paramount importance. We are convinced that maintaining high levels of economic, environmental and social performance contributes to increased shareholder value and maintains and enhances our "social licence to operate within our host communities".
No emissions in excess of regulatory limits have been reported at the Pokrovskiy mine and no instances of non-compliances have been identified by the Russian regulatory authorities at the mine. The ongoing IFC equity investment also provides technical support and regular independent reviews of the Company's environmental and social performance.
We aspire to improve our environmental and social performance on an ongoing basis and are committed to managing our operations to ensure the safety and security of our employees, contractors, neighbouring communities and our host environment. Our Sustainability Strategy is designed to improve our environmental, health and safety and social performance through the ongoing implementation of international good practice, and to build on our existing compliance with Russian regulatory requirements. We will also continue the implementation of IFC guidelines and performance standards and will continue to implement sustainability reporting, moving towards fulfilment of the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative. We will also bring operations into compliance with the ICMM Sustainable Development Principles.
In 2007 the Company published a Sustainability Report 2006 that aims to increase awareness of Peter Hambro Mining Plc's environmental and social programme.
