The Buryat Republic is in the Far East of Russia, adjacent to the Chita Region. The total area of the region is c.351,300 km2. The population is c.980,000.
The area’s key industries are agriculture, timber, leather, graphite, fishing, hunting, mining, engineering and food processing.
